How to Setup Hybrid (DOC-5032)

This document will take you through the steps of setting up the Hybrid output mode in Hand Engine. Hybrid mode combines the express calibration with captured key poses to improve calibration and allows the output to key to specific poses.

Requirements

  • StretchSense HandEngine 1.1.0 or higher: Login to your account page on http://www.stretchsense.com/my-account  or email support@stretchsense.com for details.

  • Operating System: Windows 10.

DISCLAIMER: For Hybrid Mode to work a minimum of two poses need to have key selected. However, for best results, we recommend having at least three poses with key selected and that these three poses must be dissimilar or at opposite joint angles to each other, i.e. Fist and Paddle L or Thumb Up and Paddle. In situations where the desired result only requires one or two poses, you can effectively mute the extra poses you add by setting the confidence levels for those poses to zero.

For example, if trained on 3 poses: Paddle, Fist and Thumbs Up. It would be recommended to key to all three poses and then change the confidence accordingly to get the desired result based on the poses you would like to key to. It would not be recommended to only tick the key checkbox for Fist and Thumbs Up as these poses are very similar and will prevent the system from detecting the Paddle pose. A solution to this is to key to Paddle and set the confidence level for the Paddle pose to zero. This will allow keying to Fist and Thumbs Up while also allowing the user to make a Paddle pose.

Setting up the Hybrid Mode

1 - Calibrate your MoCap Pro gloves (see a video example of the Performance library calibration).

2 - Go to Advanced Calibration Options, then under  Captured Poses

3- You have two options for how manually captured poses are used. You can set them to Blend or to Key (you can also combine both but Key will override Blend)

Option 1: Fine Tuning with Additive Poses (new Preview Feature in Hand Engine 1.5)

Enable the Blend checkbox to blend to specific poses and to fine tune an existing Express calibration pose. Individual poses that have the Blend Checkbox ticked will be used to fine tune your Express calibration. Users can check, uncheck or delete poses as they wish.

To apply the changes, users must then click the Hybrid button in the Output section. Without this step, the changes will not be applied.

Option 2: Keying to Specific Poses

Enable the Key tickbox for your preferred poses that you would like to key to, and set the Key Confidence sliding bar for them to adjust how aggressively you want the pose to be Keyed to. The higher the Key Confidence (to the right), the more aggressively it will snap to the Key pose.  Users can check, uncheck or delete poses as they wish.

To apply the changes, users must then click the Hybrid button in the Output section. Without this step, the changes will not be applied.

Note: If using Keyed poses, you will need to enable a minimum of two differently named key poses for Hybrid to work.

3- Click on Hybrid to apply your changes.

Note:  You can adjust the confidence sliding bar until it fits your desired outcome, and make sure to click on Hybrid when new changes have been made. The higher the Confidence (to the right), the more aggressively it will snap to the Key pose.

4 - You can adjust the Duration sliding bar in the Settings box in order to make the pose detection transition animation look smoother.

Note: Changes to duration are previewed live on the output and do not require you to click Hybrid to apply the changes.
