Legacy - Glove Firmware Update Guide (Mobile)

This guide is a walkthrough process for wirelessly updating the firmware on your MoCap Pro Glove/16ch Korora Sensing Circuit. Please note instructions vary depending on whether you are updating your MoCap Pro Glove using an Android device (see section Updating the Firmware - Android) or an iOS device (see section Updating the Firmware - iOS).

Prerequisites

  • 16ch Korora Sensing Circuit from MoCap Pro Glove

  • Phone or tablet with Bluetooth connectivity

  • nRFConnect application on your phone/tablet (available on Google Play or iOS app store)

Please note: If you can’t access the Google Play store you can download an apk for Android 4.3 and higher of the nRF Connect for Mobile from their official Github release page here: https://github.com/NordicSemiconductor/Android-nRF-Connect/releases

  • StretchSense firmware update packet downloaded onto your phone or tablet with Bluetooth connectivity. (.zip file) available on your Downloads page.

MoCap Pro Glove and Dongle Firmware Updates.zip

Please note: This folder should be unzipped on your phone first before proceeding.

Once unzipped there is another zip folder called app_dfu_package_01.00.XX.zip

Path is Glove-and-Dongle-Target-Firmware-2021-06-30\StretchSense MoCap Pro Glove Firmware Updates\StretchSense MoCap Pro Glove Firmware (1.00.XX)\app_dfu_package_01.00.XX.zip

This will be used for updating the gloves via the nRF Connect app

Instructions

Updating the Firmware - Android

  1. Before starting the process ensure that the circuit has been charged.

  2. Power on the circuit by pushing the top button once to enter Bluetooth Mode

  3. Open the nRF Connect application on your phone or tablet

  4. Scan for your glove (Name: StretchSense) and press CONNECT button

     

     

  5. In the top left select the DFU button

     

  6. Select Distribution pack (.zip) from the list

  7. Find the StretchSense firmware update packet (app_dfu_package_01.00.XX) from the file explorer window that pops up.

     

    NOTE: The file explorer app on some phones/tablets will attempt to open this zip file and show you the files inside as if the ZIP was a regular folder on your device, but nRF Connect requires the complete ZIP file. If your device opens the zip file like a folder, try long pressing on the ZIP file itself to select the whole file

  8. nRF Connect will begin updating the MoCap Pro Glove firmware.

    NOTE: While updating firmware the LED on the circuit will change from blue and start to pulse white

     

  9. Check that the firmware has been updated by opening the viewing the version number from within the Device Information Service

Updating the Firmware - iOS

  1. Before starting the process ensure that the circuit has been charged.

  2. Power on the circuit by pushing the top button once to enter Bluetooth Mode

  3. Open the nRF Connect application on your phone or tablet

  4. Scan for your glove (Name: StretchSense) and press Connect button

  5. From the StretchSense device page, swipe left twice to get to the DFU page, then tap the Open Document Picker button

  6. Select the Distribution pack ZIP file provided by StretchSense (app_dfu_package_01.00.XX) that you copied to your iOS device. The new firmware will now be ready to be uploaded. Click the Start button to begin the upload process.

     

    NOTE: While updating firmware the LED on the circuit will change from blue and start to pulse white.

     

     

     

  7. Wait for the Upload to complete. When the upload is complete, tap the Clear button to reset the DFU page.

     

     

     

  8. Check that the firmware has been updated by swiping right once from the DFU page to get to the Services Page, tap Connect in the top right of the screen, then scroll down to the Device Information service and tap the down arrow to read the firmware version number. Confirm Value matches the version number of the firmware you just uploaded

     

     

    Swipe right

     once, then tap Connect,, then tap the down arrow in the Firmware Revision String section
